Call Out for Community Participation

The Language in Community Festival invites every language community to participate! The event is on Saturday 14th March, 2026. You can participate as individuals, families or community organisations. You can participate in many ways and we are happy to discuss proposals with community members. Below are also some suggested ways you can participate:

Stage Presentation
Tell the story of your language, the special place it has in your community. Present a slideshow or a song.

Book Reading
A special book is read to the audience in language. The text and visuals will accompany the reading on a large screen. The reader will provide additional insights or commentary throughout the reading to add cultural meanings.

Dance
The host/group will give audience lessons for a dance, highlighting names for movements and routines in language culminating in a group dance with backing music.

Community Stall
Hold a community information stall to promote your language and the work you (your community) are doing to maintain language. Free.

Karaoke Storytime
An individual or group selects 1-2 karaoke songs in language. The presenter can tell a story about this song, why it is meaningful for them or their culture. This song will then be performed in karaoke with backing music and lyrics. Register for Karaoke Storytime here.
